BALLSTON – The Ballston Town Board scheduled a presentation on Saratoga Hospital’s proposed Exit 12 facility with a possible request for a water extension next Tuesday Sept. 7 at 7 pm.
Saratoga Hospital has plans to move its Urgent Care clinic from Route 9 to Exit 12 in Malta and it needs water.
Malta Town Supervisor Paul Sausville approached Ballston Town Supervisor Patti Southworth about a water extension connecting Ballston’s town water supply to Saratoga Hospital’s project as well as to some of Malta’s residents who do not have adequate water.
Southworth said there were two possibilities to provide them with water: a water supply service area and individual contracts.
“Our question is what would be the best for the taxpayers,” Southworth said.
The town of Ballston charges outside users $6.75 per 1,000 gallons of water to cover operational costs.
With a water supply service area, should someone not pay their water bill, Malta could levy it on their tax bill. Southworth said the difficulty with a water supply service area is that Malta would have to draw boundary lines.
She said an alternate idea would be to extend individual water contracts to the outside users.
“We can make it happen, but it has to be fiscally sound,” Southworth said.
In other Ballston agenda items to be discussed next week include considering Charles Merriam to the Town of Ballston Board of Assessment Review for a term commencing Oct. 1, 2010 to Sept. 30 2015.
