Letters to the Editor

  • I am writing today because I was a witness to the fire on Maple Ave on Saturday.  With shock and horror I could see the thick black smoke and flames shooting up from the house.  I had no idea what to do.  I then saw a man go into the house with no fire protection or anything like that on.  He was in slippers and a muscle shirt.  He came out a short while later with a dog.  I feel it took real bravery for this man to go in the house.... • The old MasterCard commercial would describe the new Ballston Park as; cost to residents for a new park zero dollars, cost residents to expand the park zero dollars, cost to residents to improve the park zero dollars and cost to residents to maintain the park zero dollars; a new 100 acre park in Ballston PRICELESS. Of course there are those that are wringing their hands saying that a free park is too expensive. They believe that having... [More]

  • I would like to encourage everyone to support the proposed school district budget and to participate in the Board of Education elections on May 15th. As an involved parent in the district, a PTA leader and a local business owner, I find that the district administration prepared a budget proposal that not only reduces our taxes but also did not continue to cut programs and staff as in the past three years. Our representatives on the Board of... [More]

  • At the beginning of the May 1, 2012 Town of Ballston Council meeting, Councilman Bill Goslin opened by extolling the local efforts on mandate relief, particularly by Ballston residents, including Supervisor Patti Southworth. Dear Editor,

I have lived in Ballston Spa for over 6 years now and have been driving to work in Albany at the Harriman Campus. Recently, I lost the use of my car and was looking for a way to Albany. When I called CDTA they informed me that buses do not run from Ballston Spa or Saratoga to the campus.

I can’t be the only one that works there or some place other than downtown Albany. How many people from this area would take the bus to work instead of driving in this traffic and/or weather, let alone gas and wear and tear on the car? Let’s let CDTA know that we would like the same help that Albany/Troy/Schenectady gets.

while I think it is great for the future of this area that Global Foundries and related companies are coming, Not all of us here work for them and make that kind of money. The “middle” class like me who barly makes it paycheck to paycheck is being priced out of living here. More than half my take home goes to rent. Where do the elected officials think we will live? Somewhere else obviously.. no-one cares about the middle its only for the top
